Let's find out about webcasts.

What's a webcast? According to Answers.com ...The word webcast is derived from "web" and "broadcast." Its use has varied since the early-mid 1990s as the nature of the medium came into public use. Webcasting is sending audio and/or video live over the Internet. In essence, webcasting can be thought of as broadcasting over the Internet. Webcasting is used extensively in the commercial sector for investor relations presentations (such as Annual General Meetings), in E-learning (to transmit seminars), and for related communications activities.

For our final term we are going to look at and listen to webcasts.

The objective is to help you find webcasts on your field, so you can get free self trainning opportunitie to keep up you updated on what's happening in your field.

We are going to use webcasts to help you located uptodated information on your field. These webcasts offer you the chance to self train. Also, you'll improve your listening and reading, vocabulary and oral presentation skills. The tasks assigned for this term are:
  1. Locate a webcast. To do so, just google it. You can write: webcasts for engineers, or webcasts graphic design, or webcast marketing, or webcast networks...
  2. Try to select a webcast that offers you video, audio, power point slides and transcripts.
    Once you have selected your webcast. Listen to it and write some notes.
  3. Prepare a short powerpoint presentaion about the webcast:
    what's the name of your webcast?
    where is it?,
    what's it about?,
    why did you select it?,
    tell about it in a few slides,
  4. Be prepared to present it to your class. For tips on how to give a short speech go to A Public Speaking Survival Guide
  5. Add a fun task to check if your audience understood what your presentation was about,
  6. Upload your presentation to your blog. To do this go to Slide Share

Remember this will be 40% of your evaluation.

Finding a Job on line!

Well, now you're about to graduate... and comes the hard task of finding a job... So, where do we start? A good way to find a job is by looking for the perfect job in the internet. Let's get ready to ship off in this excting adventure!

Finding a Job!
  1. First of all... ask yourself this question: What do you want to do? What can you do? What are you certified or will be certified ...soon... to do?
  2. Next, go to Yahoo Hot Jobs or Monster.com and try to located a job you'd like to have.

Writing your Cover Letter

  1. After you have selected your dream job. You're ready to find examples of Cover Letters in the internet. In order to find a good example go to Google and type: Cover Letter Example for Engineers in the search window. You'll probably find: http://www.bestcoverletters.com/cover-letters/Engineering Now, you are ready to write your cover letter. Get the job information you found and write a cover letter as you were applying for that job.
  2. Here, it's an article about writing a good cover letter. Do Cover Letters Really Matter?. Follow their advice and remmeber those tipis when writing your cover letter.

Resume Writing

  1. Ok, you have.. you located a job in the internet, wrote a cover letter... now it's time to write a resume... a winning resume, of course.
  2. Well, again ... let's go to google and find some resume samples for your expertise area... For example: http://www.bestsampleresume.com/engineering-resumes.html
  3. Read the article about writing a great resume.

  4. write your resume... you can select the kind of resume you want. Make sure your resume includes everything you need to get the job you slected and wrote a cover letter for.
